Eyeplugs is back with a new series ‘Earful’, a video screening with a live music performance by Sabreteeth. Free! Experimental videos from new comers to the Eyeplugs series as well as returning artists.

New Music Podcasts

This season Experimental Channel will be featuring new music performances centering around the underground San Francisco sound of Sabreteeth, friends of Ratskin and Redscroll Records.

SF Livin is a light-hearted but honest look at what it means to live in one of the most expensive cities in America. Interviews from three San Francisco county residents on their experiences, jobs, and education. By Ronaldo Barbachano 2007.

A behind the scenes look at George Kuchar (b-movie grandfather) during the making of his latest cinematic conquest: Queen Konga made at the San Franciso Art Institute. By Ronaldo Barbachano Spring 2006. Featuring interviews/performances by, Linda Martinez, Bob Moricz, Evie Mpras, and others.

His film and video work has been screened internationally, and he has been a major influence for many filmmakers, including John Waters and Todd Solondz. Kuchar has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Worldwide Video Festival First-Prize Award, the Los Angeles Film Critics Award, the Maya Deren Award for Independent Film and Video Artists from the American Film Institute, and others. He also contributed to the underground comic book, Arcade, for which he created a biography of H.P. Lovecraft. Eyeplugs Screening @ The Clay

To get the ball rolling ahead of time a portion of Eyeplugs will be screened at the Clay in May. It will be shown before Naked Lunch May 18th and 19th, 2007 as part of the Late Night Picture Show. Go and check out the article on Experimental Channel and partners.

Blip TV Jumbotron #7

BlipTV has graced Experimental Channel with the honor of the number 7 spot on their jumbotron which is Diego Tuesdays Episode 6. So far it has received 1300 viewings and counting beginning Saturday. Thanks blip for the traffic!

Diego Tuesdays

You are probably wondering what is up with the six episodes I dropped a few days ago onto the site called Diego Tuesdays. Diego Tuesdays was a project I worked on last year with Jon Philips at the San Francisco Art Institute where we would cover the gallery openings every Tuesday. The first episode contains an interview with the managers of the gallery where they explain how it works. Basically, the Diego gallery is only for students (or sometimes alumnus if they are famous enough) at the Art Institute. Students submit their show and a group of jurors pick and arrange who gets the show and when.

Every Tuesday is the opening at 5 pm. where free food and wine is served, and for a semester our crew could be found interviewing the sometimes frazzled, sometimes absent, art students in the show.

Jon insisted I put them all up at once, so here they are.

On that note, Experimental Channel will be taking a short spring break of 2 to 4 weeks. Its been a long run and I need to take a break and find a job so I can continue producing content. So hey, if you’re looking to hire someone with a large array of technical/internet/video production skills/graphic design skills, let me know.

Hey all.. Just thought I’d share this with everyone: Experimental Channel (Distillate) has been placed on the “Jumbotron” - #18 on the front page of blip.tv! I emailed support to tell them about my awesome trailer for the channel, but the support guy stated they were trying out something new and wanted to feature a full video episode at the end for the people who watch through the entire “Jumbotron” as a “Treat.” Maybe its a little message just in time for the 4-year anniversary of the war and the convenient hike in gas prices that have been occurring. Theres no telling how long it’ll be up there, but please check it out, while its still up!

Experimental Channel is one of the Featured Shows, and I’m hopeful to get the trailer or other episodes into the jumbotron to compete with the likes of the Bloggers and 15-second shows. So far the viewer has increased slowly (most new traffic coming from blip.tv) over the months and the hits to the v-casts are leveling out to 20 hits a day.. not bad, right? There are 19 posts and 2000 hits since Nov. 2006.

Still more new programming to come every monday.

A video piece by Ronaldo Barbachano that parallels types of soundscapes over different images of corners, streets and landmarks in and around the city of San Francisco. Its purpose is to start a discussion on the progression of the road and highway systems and its effects on the surrounding urban/rural areas.

Eyeplugs V2 screening and V1 Release Party @ The Clay Feb. 254th Midnight

An upcoming Eyeplugs V2 screening at the Clay in the Filmore on Feb. 24th at midnight. Admission is $5 and the show will contain new video works from artists in the bay area.
Along with this screening we will also have the official release party of Eyeplugs V1 on DVD. So if you missed the first screening, you can purchase the DVD for $10. This DVD will be run in limited numbered editions, so get your piece of Eyeplugs history before they run out!

Experimental Channel and Decaycast/Ratskin Records will be presenting Eyeplugs 2.0 (remixed) at “Media Blitz.”

Inspired by the nature of the classroom - each artist will be exploring work that is inspired by a simple requirement, “go crazy; we trust you.” All at once one is bombarded with sensory stimuli, new information, and in the company of friends, discussing the topic at hand. (what topic?)

Ratskin and Experimental Channel will have a screening of sound and music based videos that include a music performance by SABRETEETH. Roberto Bortolotti, a London based artist will be screening his voyeuristic film of the London underground. Jaren Bonillo will grace us with work dealing with optical illusions and the body. Richardo Perez is doing a much anticipated performance. Amy Ho presents a braille installation to greet you at the gate. k muldoon, a Brooklyn based video artist, has documented the hands of sweatshop workers in her neighborhood. Stuyan Dabov installs a piece in the “pit.” Kenneth Lo exhibits a “little shy quiet” sculpture. Deer Fang will show a music video project for Say Bok Gwai, a cantonese punkrock band in San Francisco and DivaTV. Lucy Kalyani Lin’ and Joshua Mcveigh Schultz will collaborate on a sound installation and a public project. Bia Gayotto’s music video is as quirky as it is fun to watch.

We will have beer, veggies, and a roasted pig.
